WSET Level 2 Award in Wines

Description

WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines is a globally recognised, beginner- to intermediate-level qualification suitable for industry professionals and wine enthusiasts. No previous wine knowledge or wine tasting experience is necessary.

You’ll gain knowledge of the principal and regionally important grape varieties of the world, the regions in which they are grown, and the styles of wine they produce. Through a combination of tasting and theory, you’ll explore the factors that impact style and quality and learn how to describe these wines with confidence.

Topics covered include:
- How to taste and describe wine using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine®(SAT);
- How environmental factors, grape-growing, winemaking and maturation options influence the style and quality of wines made from eight principal grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio/Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Syrah/Shiraz;
- The style and quality of wines from 22 regionally important grape varieties produced in over 70 geographical indications (GIs) around the world;
- How grape varieties and winemaking processes influence key styles of sparkling wines & fortified wines;
- Key labelling terms used to indicate origin, style and quality;
- Principles and processes involved in the storage and service of wine;
- Principles of food and wine pairing.

This qualification has a minimum requirement of 28 hours of study time, including class times and a minimum of 11 hours of personal study and revision. The qualification also includes a multiple choice, closed book 1-hour examination.

ONLINE DELIVERY

Online study offers students the flexibility to complete their study at a time and place that suits them. Blended and custom options are available for Regional or in house and require a minimum number of students.

While WSET online courses are a great option for many, it is important to be aware of the following requirements:
- Samples are not included in the cost of an online course.
- WSET examination is held on campus with the exam date specified at the time of enrolment. If you are unable to attend in person a remote invigilated exam can be arranged at a cost to the student.

How does the WSET Online Classroom work?
- Each course has a set start and finish date, with clear guidelines on progression, however there are no fixed times to log-on as there is no "live" delivery of content. Students can complete their learning at times that suit them.
- Students will learn through a range of independent and/or group activities supported by videos and quizzes, designed to achieve the required learning outcomes to prepare for the examination.
- Throughout the course students will have access to a subject-specialist educator who’ll provide feedback on any assigned exercises and respond to course related queries.
- Students will retain access to the course materials for a year after the course concludes

You will need access to a computer and/or HTML 5 compatible mobile or tablet with the following minimum requirements: Internet explorer 10, Firefox 25.0, Safari 6. Chrome 30.0 or other HTML compatible web browser with JavaScript and cookies enabled; Adobe Reader X1 or equivalent; internet access (broadband recommended).

  • There are no entry requirements for this course however participants must be over 18 years.

Short Course Delivery Locations Some short courses can provide accreditation for industry-specific registration, while others merely provide skills and knowledge in the subject area. Concession prices are available for some courses.
